Why a 1,000-product catalog breaks ordinary quoting.
Most quoting tools assume a tidy product list. An enterprise IT services catalog is not that: a single offer can carry n-level attributes, options nested inside options, and a quote can run to hundreds of line items that all have to price correctly together. At that scale a manual, multi-day quoting process is not slow because people are careless; it is slow because the combinatorics are genuinely hard.
CPQ earns its place by turning that complexity into guided configuration. The rules that decide what can be sold with what, and at what price, live in the system rather than in a senior seller's head, and multi-level approvals follow the real organizational hierarchy, so a discount that needs three sign-offs gets exactly three, no more and no fewer.
